Notorious for traffic woes and traffic congestion Bangkok has a multitude of other choices of transportation for the traveller.

Bangkok is a modern city on the move, literally. Traffic problems are synonymous to Thailand’s capital but the city possesses an excellent public transport system. The most effective people movers are the city’s Skytrain and MRT, stations are strategically placed close to shopping and sights of interest to tourists. Travellers using this cost effective way of getting around find Bangkok particularly easy to navigate.

Bangkok Transit System – BTS Skytrain

The Skytrain is an elevated rail system which crosses the city and connects many of the most popular areas. Trains are frequent and very comfortable and clean. The best way to see Bangkok is to purchase a Sky Train day pass, this gives the traveller the option to get on and off as often as wanted for the whole day. Travelling by Skytrain also offers the tourist a glimpse from above of the daily lives of the local people going about their daily business.

Bangkok’s Mass Rapid Transit Network – MRT

This fast and efficient people mover was opened in July 2004. It has the capacity to carry 40000 passengers around Bangkok each hour in each direction. Trains operate every 5 minutes and are a welcome relief from the traffic clogged roads.

Bangkok Canal Boats

Boats are a great way to experience the canals that meander their way through the city of Bangkok. Travellers can catch a glimpse of yesteryear Bangkok when travelling up and down the Chao Phraya River. There are several types of boats available, express boats, river taxis and tail boats.

Tuk Tuk Travel Around Bangkok

Tuk Tuk’s or Sam lor as they are known to the Thai locals are certainly a typical, colourful Asian experience. A Tuk Tuk is essentially a rickshaw with a small engine attached. Richshaws were introduced during the Second World War.

Bus Travel Around Bangkok

Buses in Bangkok provide an incredibly cheap way to travel from one side of the city to another. It's also a great way to see the real Bangkok you don't often see if you're travelling by other means of transportation. Although buses give you a ringside seat to experience and observe the locals and the city, the journey can be quite hair raising.

Motorbike Taxi Hire in Bangkok

One of the fastest ways for a solitary traveller to get from place to another in Bangkok is by Motorbike taxi. The Motorbike is very effective during peak hour, gridlocked traffic by having the ability to weave and dart in and out of other traffic, but be warned this mode of transport is probably the most dangerous.
