Bangkok has grown a mantle of glamour and sophistication over the last few years and new visitors will be surprised at the cutting-edge bars, clubs and restaurants.

The pages of Thailand’s Tatler are filled with pictures of designers, models, and the movers and shakers of modern Thai High Society, the HiSos, who regularly flock to the newest and most exciting venues that the city is becoming famed for. Perfect for people watching, or an ideal place for a group outing, the venues listed below are the top spots.

Sky Bar and Distil at the Dome State Tower

It has been said that the Sky Bar and Distil at the Dome State Tower raised Bangkok’s night scene to new heights. This is the best place in which to drink champagne on a hot, sultry night when the lights of the city are glittering on the waters of the Chao Phraya River below. Sip a signature cocktail and pick out the famous landmarks of the city.

BarSu

An unpretentious, quirky bar that satisfies on many levels, from the swanky, but comfortable design, to the funky music. It attracts those who are looking for something between the severely upmarket establishments and, at the other end, the pure drinking bars. Food is delectable and the 2-star Michelin chef offers a menu that features tempera and sushi to accompany the fine wines.

Shangi-La Lobby Bar

Not a bar (but drinks can be had), this is the best tea-room in town, especially at week-ends. The clientele is mostly women who come to see and be seen – this is where glamour will be found.

Breeze

Part of the State Tower complex (see Sky Bar and Distil), Breeze Restaurant and Bar is on the 52nd floor approached via a futuristic glass sky-bridge. As well as the stunning views and the company of beautiful fashionistas, the food (Kobe beef tenderloin, Wasabi Prawns et al) is superb. Alfresco eating doesn’t get any better.

Bed Supperclub

This is where the elite hang out, or lounge about, on oversized beds in an white tubular space-pod while eating modern snacks made with current favourites, like goat’s cheese, walnuts, anything Japanese, and the always popular spicey Thai dishes. Eating is done while lounging on the beds, until the moment when the tables are cleared away and the D.Js start up the sound system. Then Bed Supperclub morphs into one of the most glamorous nightclubs in the country.

Manohra Dinner Cruise

Cruising up and down the ChaoPhraya River on the restored rice barge that is the Manohra, is a pleasant way to spend an evening. Thai food is served on the cruise as the barge glides past famous Bangkok landmarks like Wat Arun, the Grand Palace and Chinatown.
