The hospitality trade in Thailand is taken seriously and the budget hotels in Bangkok are superior to those of most other countries, offering excellent facilities.

After a hard day’s sightseeing in the enervating heat of Bangkok, or a night spent touring the hot-spots of the city, a restful, comfortable room can be an essential. Hotels on Sukumvit and Silom are popular with tourists as they are situated along the Sky Train route. Many travellers head straight for the hotels in the Khao San area but as Thailand offers excellent value for money in the budget range a few extra Baht spent on a first quality budget hotel, will be money well spent.

Old Bangkok Inn

Situated in the historical quarter of Bangkok, Rattanakosin Island, Old Bangkok Inn is truly great value for a genuinely Thai experience. The furnishings (Thai golden teak) and ambience have been created with great attention to detail. Prices start at only 3,190 Baht per room, of which there are ten in the hotel, each one individually decorated and with private bath, satellite TV, DVD player and a complimentary computer with Broadband connection. Guests staying at the Old Bangkok Inn directly impact on the local community and the less privileged in Thailand through the “Support the Community Initiative".

The owner is happy to help and offer advice on how to spend time, where to go and where to eat. Being in the old historic quarter, means that the hotel is close to many of the top sights including the Grand Palace.

Buddy Lodge, Khao San Road, Bangkok

Many people just love the craziness of the Khao San Road, the noise and the all-night partiies that go on until dawn. Not all, however, want what goes with it usually, mediocre hotels, hot and noisy, ill ventilated and it must be admitted, not always very clean. Step forward the boutique style Buddy Lodge, a hidden gem on the Khao San Road. Within a short walking distance to the major tourist attractions such as Grand Palace, Golden Mount and the Chao Phraya River, as well as shopping districts, Buddy Lodge is perfectly situated. With 76 very comfortable en suite rooms furnished to a high standard, (they even have safe deposits in each room- essential in this area), a rooftop swimming pool with poolside snack bar and a fitness centre, this is Khao San Road as it’s never been seen before.

Also in the budget range are The Oakwood Residence and the Fraser Suites both on Sukhamvit, recommended as good, budget accommodation with room for two or three people at a time.

The Hotel desk at the airport can furnish details of the above and make bookings if needed.
