Thailand's capital Bangkok attracts many gay tourists throughout the year and they all need some place to lay their heads. Here are some suggestions for the gay tourist.

Some gay travellers will choose the ubiquitous international hotel chains but others will want the more intimate experience of a locally owned hotel that welcomes gay or bisexual men and women.

Like all hotels the choice is wide and the cost varies according to the location, décor and services offered.

Tarntawan Place Hotel

Right at the centre of the “gay district” is the Swiss owned Tarntawan Place Hotel. Although the Tarntawan Hotel is on busy Surriwongse Road it occupies a very quiet courtyard site and cannot be seen from the road, it has limited car parking spaces and a range of rooms from deluxe double to a very large super deluxe suite. Room rates start at just over 2000 baht a night.

The Tarntawan Place Hotel is within easy walking distance of the central business district, and shopping centres. If its entertainment you are after then there is a vast choice of gay bars and clubs just round the corner and cinemas only a short Skytrain ride away.

On site at the cozy boutique hotel is a business centre, an in house travel agent, a bar and restaurant, and 24-hour room service.

Unico Grand Silom Hotel (AKA Tower Inn)

Another hotel that is located in the central and business district of Bang Rak, right on Silom Road.

Its newly refurbished rooms have all the amenities you would expect from a large flat screen satellite TV, direct dialing IDD, tea and coffee making facilities. A business centre is also available.

There is also a wide range of rooms to choose from a twin to a large Junior Suite and the rates won’t break the bank either the Junior Suite is only 3,700 baht a night.

The hotel boasts a lobby bar, restaurant, 24-hour coffee shop, roof-top bar and restaurant that offers panoramic views over Bangkok and the Chao Phraya River. This space also has a large swimming pool and a discrete fitness centre.

Two smaller guest houses are worth looking at these are Vincent’s and the Seven Rooms, and the Om Yim Lodge.

Vincent’s and the Seven Rooms

This small guesthouse is self-describing: it only has seven rooms. They are certainly minimalist in their décor, but are tastefully decorated; they are large, comfortable and come with en suite bathrooms, IDD, Internet connections, mini bar, electronic safe, and the usual amenities you would expect.

Vincent’s serves excellent Thai food in the clean indoor and outdoor restaurant area. If all you want is to eat at the restaurant it is best to book as it can be very busy. Vincent’s will also cater for small parties and celebrations.

Om Yim Lodge

This pleasant guesthouse and restaurant is conveniently located just a short walk from Chong Nonsi Skytrain station and very convenient to both Silom sois 4, 2/1 and 2 and to Surawongsi Roads. The rooms are very nicely appointed with tea and coffee making facilities and all the others you would expect.

The city centre garden is a delight and open for all meals.Address
