The year round sunshine and exceptional weather in Hua Hin means that golf courses have multiplied to satisfy the demands of tourists, retirees, and Bangkok golfers.
First up is the Royal, Hua Hin Golf Course, situated west of the town, Thailand’s first ever golf course, established some 80 years ago. It has a very special Thai charm, many of the fairways being lined with huge trees and sculptured shrubs in the shapes of animals and Thai mythological creatures. The caddies are considered to be some of Thailand’s best, and dressed in yellow, they are frequently called “the canaries”. On the not too demanding course, they carry ample supplies of iced water, cold towels and snacks, and will be happy to point out where a tiger’s footprints were found one morning in the thirties. Majestic Creek & Milford Golf Course: Situated just 30 kilometres southwest of the Dusit Resort Hotel, between fertile farmlands of pineapples, mango, sugar cane and Aloe Vera, Majestic Creek is a 27-hole championship golf course with a unique Zoiza grass carpet-like undulating fairway and some great water holes. There is also a driving range and an excellent Pro shop. Springfield Golf Course: This beautifully maintained course presents the golfer with a wonderful, beautifully-designed landscaped 18 holes. A true Jack Nicklaus designed masterpiece it presents a challenge to the golfer's skills. This championship course has five sets of tees to play from and is reckoned to be one of the best courses on which to play. In addition to a PGA professional teaching staff, Springfield has chipping and putting greens. Its nine-hole Valley Course is surrounded by beautiful mountains and its layout runs up the mountain and back towards the Clubhouse, making it a spectacular and challenging course. Palm Hills Golf Course: A Max Wexler designed golf course this is one of the most open and enjoyable courses in the area, particularly for high handicappers. Its rolling scenery and sea views makes it a favourite with many golfers – especially when you factor in the cooling sea breezes in the afternoon. It is less than 10 minutes from Hua Hin, making it the closest championship course to town. Imperial Lake View Golf Course: Just 18 kl. from the Dusit Resort Hotel, this 36-hole, 440 acre championship golf course has a backdrop of the famous rolling hills and lakes and is famous for its interesting water features. Designed by Roger Packard, the course is one of the older ones, having been in existence since 1993 and it was the site of the Asian Tour’s 2007 Thailand Open and is the number 7 ranked course in Thailand.. And now comes Black Mountain Golf Course. Designed by Pacific Coast Design of Australia it is actually two courses, the East Course, a championship course with a par of 72 measuring 7261 yards and the West Course, designed to be a resort course of par 72 at a comfortable 7064. The 2008 PGA Tour event will be staged here. Situated in the secluded and tranquil hills and valleys that back up to the mountains that separate Hua Hin from Burma, just 10 kilometres from the center of town. Many natural watercourses are incorporated throughout the layout and there is a state-of-the-art computer controlled irrigation system with associated weather stations to assure a perfect carpet of turf grass. This sophisticated system should compliment the Bermuda greens and the Seashore Paspalum fairways, which provide one of the better surfaces for play in the tropics. Hua Hin, apart from its six magnificent golf courses, offers gourmet dining from Vietnamese to French, including the best seafood on the Gulf. The Dusit Resort Hotel can make reservations at any of these golf courses, and can provide partners if needed.
