Health Tourism in Thailand is a growing business, and the best treatments in some of Asia's best hospitals are on offer, at prices far below those of Europe and the USA.

An exceptional range of medical check-up packages is available in Thailand and as waiting lists are almost non-existent, almost anything can be done during a normal stay holiday. Whether it’s a medical check-up, a screening process, or a mini or major operation, the standards offered to the health tourist are first-class.

Call at the hospital and chat with one of the nursing staff. They will help with decision-making and they are surprisingly approachable.

Why Health Tourism is Big in Thailand

Qualifications: Most of the doctors and surgeons at the hospitals in Bangkok, have studied and worked in major hospitals in the USA, the UK, Switzerland and Germany. Not only do they speak many languages, but they have an instinctive understanding of western needs.

What Sort of Packages are on Offer:

Bangkok has a range of hospitals all offering different packages, and all very good value for money. Taking a package is the best way to initiate any treatments or check-up tests, as everything is covered. Check-up tests can, of course, be selected individually if preferred but letting the doctor select which tests he thinks are necessary is a good idea, as selecting a test means he can target specific health problems.

Checks range from basic physical examinations and blood tests to a full medical check that covers every aspect of your health – including chest X-rays, ECG, kidney and liver-function tests, and for women, mammograms and smear/pap tests.

Who Goes to Bangkok for Health Tourism

Apart from the Thais themselves and the ex-pat workers and their families, most of the health tourists hail from Europe, Australia, and the Middle East.

What Can the Health Tourist Expect on a Check-UP

The patient/tourist is signed in, full details taken of home address, where residing in Thailand, what check-ups are required, etc. A photograph is taken and attached to the file on which is noted all the tests, starting with weight, blood-pressure, various blood tests, X-rays, Scans,, ECGs or any gender specific tests. This file accompanies the patient wherever he/she goes and is updated at every test.

At the end of the check-up, there follows a session with a doctor who will have the results on his computer ready to talk the patient through the findings. Then a bound copy of the print-out (usually many pages) is given to the patient before he/she leaves the hospital.

Further Information

Many hospitals have check-ups for different ages, some for over 60’s, some for over 35’s. Some hospitals differentiate between male and female tests, although most hospitals consider gender-specific tests as optional components and customers can choose to add them to an existing check-up package at their own expense.

Bangkok’s Top Hospitals

There are many good hospitals, but the following three are among the most popular with health tourists.

Bumrungrad Hospital, off Sukhamvit Road,

BNH Hospital (formerly known as Bangkok Nursing Home) – Convent Road.

Samitivej Hospital, off Sukhamvit Road
