Every year in December the oldest and most historical beach resort in Thailand hosts a vintage car parade commencing in Bangkok and ending in Hua Hin.

Between 14th and 15th December 2007, 80 vintage cars and classic motorbikes will take part in this year’s vintage car rally.

Organized by the Hua Hin Hoteliers Club in conjunction with Sofitel Centara Resorts and the Tourist Authority of Thailand, this annual spectacle is one for your diary, should you be in Hua Hin or Bangkok at this time.

This year is a very special celebration in honor of His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 80th birthday.

Vintage Car Parade Dates

On Friday 14th December at 8am, 80 classic cars will set off from the Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok to travel the 225 kilometers south to Hua Hin. On arrival at the resort a big beach party is arranged for drivers and members of the public.

Everyone is invited to the Hua Hin Market Village to eat from the 80-meter long buffet table with food prepared by top chefs from local five-star hotels. The price of admission – following the “80 years” birthday theme, is just 80 Baht per person.

Vintage Car Parade Route

On Friday 14th December the procession of vintage cars slowly make their way from Bangkok, (via the Dusit Palace) to Hua Hin, passing through Petchaburi and Cha-am.

In Hua Hin, between 2-4 pm on Saturday 15th December, there is a chance for those staying in the area to participate in the much photographed parade through the town center. Members of the public can go along for the ride at a cost of 180-280 Baht per trip. Hua Hin After Dark has a large online picture gallery of last year's (2006) vintage car rally.

Sofitel Charity Gala Dinner – “The Happy Road to Hua Hin”

On the evening of Saturday 15th December the Sofitel is hosting a Charity Gala Dinner in aid of HM the King’s Chaipattana Foundation.

Tickets are available at 2, 480 Baht per person and include a pre-dinner cocktail plus live music and dancing. Amongst the many events planned for the evening is a period-costume competition. Guests are encouraged to arrive dressed according to this year’s “retro” theme.

Accommodation Packages

For Thailand's car enthusiasts, this is a perfect time to book accommodation in Hua Hin. The high season has just begun and the weather and its long white-sandy beaches are at their best. With the rainy season now over, Hua Hin offers a peaceful, relaxing retreat from the hectic pace of Bangkok.

The Sofitel has a proud history. Built in the low-level colonial style of The Raffles Hotel in Singapore, this hotel was used in the filming of Oliver Stone’s, "The Killing Fields". The Sofitel is the oldest resort hotel in Thailand, built in 1923 it was originally known at the “Railway hotel”.

The Sofitel is offering a special Vintage Car Parade package of 3 days and 2 nights accommodation, with the chance to take part in the procession from Bangkok to Hua Hin. Breakfast and the special Charity Gala Dinner is included in the price.

A superior room costs 23,280 Baht, Deluxe Room 36,880 Baht and a Premium Deluxe Pool Villa is 42,480 Baht. For booking details and a program of events go to the Sofitel Centara Hotels website.
